Love Comes In Many Forms // Even Coffee Mugs

I was visiting my parents last week and walked into the kitchen to find two empty coffee mugs, a clean spoon and some sugar substitute all laid out on the counter. The coffee pot was ready to go with fresh roast and clean water ready for the morning brew.

The visual absolutely warmed my heart. You see, my parents are celebrating their 50th year of marriage. What I was witnessing was common practice. Every single night my father prepared the morning’s cup of coffee for he and my mom. For as long as I can remember this is a ritual that occurred every single evening.

This also was a beautiful reminder of simple acts of love. Showing someone love and support does not need to be a grand gesture. Something as simple as preparing for morning coffee shows commitment, loyalty, and love.

It got me thinking, are there simple acts of love all around us that we are just unaware of? Could they not be as easy as holding the door open for another individual to walk through? Holding the elevator door open just a few seconds longer to allow someone access? Actually picking up the phone for a conversation when a loved one is calling (yes NOT texting)!

In the workplace could these common acts of love be in the form of asking how your weekend was? Or bringing in food, for a unscheduled food day? Or maybe even offering to help with a project. Or maybe it would look like sending out an e-mail to touch base and see how your team is doing with certain projects.

Love is an action verb.

And it shows up in so many different forms. The challenge for all of us is becoming aware of it when it's right in front of us. Appreciating the effort that was put in. And then paying it forward to show love to someone else.
